Over the past few weeks, there have been quite a few different announcements for upcoming titles. While some dates seem reasonable, others seem like a speculation. Take a look with me at a couple of games that have been announced to have come out at the end of the year.
Pokemon Scarlet/Pokemon Violet (Switch)
Now, I have to admit I love Pokemon. I went so far as to pre-order Pokemon Legends Arceus just to make sure I avoided a situation which occurred when I tried to find Miitopia on release (it was a painful time). With more being added to the series every time, the slogan "Gotta catch em all" is getting harder to complete, but always fun to see how I do every generation.
For the newly released trailer of Pokemon Scarlet/Pokemon Violet, I feel both concerned and excited by it.
While I am fully aware this is a current work in progress, having a game like this be announced so soon after Pokemon Legends Arceus seems a bit worrying. Athough it says the end of the year (usually October/November for a pokemon release), I feel they might be pushing themselves to release it. With mystery gifts still being released for BDSP and Legends, I wonder if that will affect anything.
Despite my worries, I do look forward to the new game. The theme being based around Spain/Spanish culture is very intriguing to me, especially since they based generation 8 off of the UK (though if I had to review how accurate it was, I'd give it a 7/10). With the leak of the new starters too, it's safe to say the internet, myself included, have two favourites. Nothing else has been released trailer wise, but you can see what was originally shown here:
2. Hogwarts Legacy
This is honestly a huge shock to see for me. Growing up playing the Harry Potter games, I thought they would not touch on anymore world exploration after the app game Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery. This is such a pleasant surprise to be coming out.
The trailer is action packed and full of all the content it promises, including its promise to be available during the holiday season (which tends to mean December). With much of the game fleshed out already in one trailer, there are less worries about how complete this game will be once it is released. What makes the trailer more exciting is that you can see how much thought has gone into making it feel both nostalgic and new at the same time.
As a rundown of the trailer:
The story is taking place in the 1800s, and you are a 5th year that has just transferred into Hogwarts. A lot about who you are is customisable, from how you look to which house you get sorted into. From your first day, you can choose what you wish to study, who to make friends with and where to explore. The world surrounding Hogwarts is able to be traversed for the first time, allowing you to go and see what lies beyond the forbidden forest and further. You can make friends with an array of characters, each with their own backstory as well as being able to take them on your journey around Hogwarts. It is set to be an open world experience where no two playthroughs will be the exact same.
Since the setting is in the 1800s, there are a lot of changes from the modern day. As for what is different, it can be easily explored thanks to it being open world.
There was a lot to unpack from it, so those who wish to watch it can check it out here:
